I'M DYING TO TRY THESE NEW, NYC, PLANT-BASED RESTAURANTS

     There is something to be said about the plant-based movement, when so many new innovative, and delicious plant-based restaurants keep opening up. Manhattan and the surrounding Burroughs have always been a haven for vegans and vegetarians, providing a huge number of restaurants, bakeries, cafes, and juice shops to chose from.

     New York City already boasts the most extensive list of restaurants in my Plant-based Restaurant Guide, and until this point I have tried all of the restaurants myself. I am excited to discover even more, all having opened since January 2015, that I have yet to enjoy and am dying to try! Check out the newest plant-based restaurants of NYC, and experience them for the first time with me.

00+Co, a new plant-based pizza concept from Matthew Kenney, opened its doors in New York City’s East Village in February 2016. Amanda Cohen is the chef and owner of Dirt Candy, the award-winning vegetable restaurant on New York City’s Lower East Side. Dirt Candy was the first vegetable-focused restaurant in the city and the leader of the vegetable-forward movement. The restaurant’s original location only had 18 seats and was open for six years, during which time it became the first vegetarian restaurant in 17 years to receive two stars from the New York Times, was recognized by the Michelin Guide five years in a row, and won awards from Gourmet Magazine, the Village Voice, and many others. Its new location opened in January, 2015 and it was the first restaurant in the city to eliminate tipping and share profits with its employees.

Nix is a new restaurant from Michelin-starred chef John Fraser, drawing on his personal passion for cooking with vegetables. The menu will feature an array of affordable and seasonal dishes, largely sourced from the Union Square Greenmarket, along with an innovative list of cocktails and wines, all served in a fun and lively Greenwich Village atmosphere. Opening first for dinner only, Nix will also serve lunch and brunch beginning in the late spring.

Looking for the perfect compliment to your workout routine? Try this recipe for fat flush water!

      Your body needs enough water everyday to keep hydrated and cleanse itself of unwanted materials. Fat deposits that form on the body can be tough to break down and eliminate, but proper nutrition and exercise can help greatly with this.


     Fat is broken down when the body uses its fat deposits to produce energy. Oftentimes products are leftover from the chemical breakdown of this fat. If the byproducts are not used by the body as energy, they are then considered waste products that need to be removed. 
This is where the role of water comes in.

The Role Of Water
 

     Water is the vehicle used to remove these waste products from the body. The leftover materials from the fat breakdown are then filtered out of your organs by the water that you drink. The water carries the waste to your bladder where it is then expelled from your body through your urine.

How It Works

    Tangerine increases your sensitivity to insulin, stabilizes blood sugar, and increase your fat burning capabilities during exercise. Also high in Vitamin C, grapefruit increases your metabolic energy, burns fat, and increases energy. Cucumber helps you feel more full. Cucumber also reduces bloating and water retention as it is a natural diuretic.! Mint and Spearmint leaves aid in digestion and help the body eliminate fats naturally through the digestive process.

Fat Flush Water Recipe

2 Liters (64 oz.) Purified Water

1 Tangerine, sectioned

1/2 Grapefruit, sliced

1 Cucumber, sliced

4 Peppermint or Spearmint Leaves

Ice, (made from purified water) optional

Mix in a pitcher before bed and drink throughout the entire next day. Please consider using organic produce for this, if it is unavailable to you, thoroughly wash the produce before adding it to the water.

     Please be advised that you still need to exercise for your body to break down the fat. Once it is broken down through exercise,   fat can then be eliminated by the body faster and easier with the help of this water. Proper nutrition also plays a huge role as well.

TRY WHEATGRASS FOR A NATURAL ENERGY BOOST

I have had such a busy schedule the past few weeks getting ready for NYFW. From running around to castings, go-sees, and fittings, I really haven't had much time for anything else other than the gym.

     Now that fashion week is more than halfway through and I have a chance to post, I thought I should share something that has helped me get through my 12-14 hour days.

     Not only have I been juicing primarily through out the day and eating lots of raw veggies at night, but I've also been making frequent stops at the Union Square Farmers' Market. Not for my usual veggie stock pile, but instead for one stand in particular... The Wheatgrass Booth.

 One shot of wheatgrass juice packs enough of an energy boost to keep me going and is packed full of nutrients that benefit you way more than a cup of joe!!!

According to JuicingForHealth.com

"The most outstanding feature of the wheatgrass is its very high content of chlorophyll at about 70%. This alone makes it a superfood that has a highly energizing and alkalizing effect."

     They continue,

"Wheatgrass is a complete food and an excellent source of vitamin C, E, K and B complex (including B12). It is rich in the minerals calcium, cobalt, germanium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, protein, sodium, sulphur, and zinc. And it also has a long list of amino acids (~17 types) and about 80 known enzymes."

****Be cautious when trying wheatgrass if you have any gluten sensitivities, and stay away from it all together if you are celiac or allergic to wheat. Opt instead for another Vitamin-rich green juice and receive similar, energy-boosting benefits.
