THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR HEALTH?

Which came first? The chicken or the egg?

...One of the most asked questions of our time. When it comes to health and a good diet, this metaphor can be applied yet again: Which comes first? Happiness or health?

In my opinion, the order of feeling good and being healthy is more clearly defined.

I have found... and deeply, truly believe that health and happiness go hand in hand. In my own life, my physical, emotional, and mental health have all improved significantly as my happiness has. The better I feel each day, the more energy I have to do my work and exercise. I also make better decisions about what food I eat throughout the day when I am less stressed. But how have I achieved this Happiness? This more present, less stressed, and easy-going state?

That is what i want to share with you all today.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR HEALTH:

PRACTICE GRATITUDE

You may think that this is oversimplifying things... How can practicing gratitude lead to better health?

The key to answering this question is by pointing out the number one cause of all health problems today, which is STRESS

PRACTICING GRATITUDE DAILY WILL REDUCE YOUR STRESS!!!

I know that this works firsthand, and even better its free.

All that it requires is your mind and a few minutes each day, preferrably first thing in the morning.

WHAT TO DO:

**I like to do this in the morning, right after I wake up, as I am getting ready.

It can also be done throughout the day when you are walking, driving, sitting and eating, or any other time that is convient for you to be alone with your thoughts for a few minutes.

-State all the things you are thankful for (people, places, things, feelings, moments, achievements, etc.)

*Include ALL things, big and small.

*Remember that even negative events that happen to us have allowed us to learn or grown in some way, and if you frame them in a positive way, you can be grateful for those moments too.

...Saying all of these things only takes a few minutes, but it real helps put things in perspective for me. No matter what may be happening in my ever-changing life, I know that these are things I have... and I know that I am very fortunate to have. I will often think of things throughout the day that I am thankful for and say them to myself whenever they pop up. My stress levels immediately go down whenever I do this.

HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF THINGS I SAY:

I am thankful that I woke up today.

I am thankful to have this bed and this shelter.

I am thankful to have water to drink and heat to keep me warm.

I am thankful for my parents and family.

I am thankful for my friends.

I am thankful for having clean air to breath.

I am thankful for the sun.

I am thankful for my health.

I am thankful for my strength.

I am thankful for my job.

I am thankful for my peers.

I am thankful for all of those who have believed in me.

I am thankful for those who encourage me.

I am thankful for all that the world provides me.

I am thankful for our Planet, Earth.

TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT:

Through practicing gratitude daily, I have noticed my overall stress level go down, and my happiness and health levels go up.

HEALTH FOLLOWS HAPPINESS, AND GRATITUDE ENCOURAGES BOTH.

*Remember:

Diet and exercise are great, but if your body can't perform its' basic metabollic processes because it is constantly stressed, they are not doing all that they can for you. That is why I truly believe that this practice is the first and most important thing we should do for our health.
